Game Drives

ELECTRIC GAME DRIVES & THE GREAT MIGRATION

Emboo River is located in the centre of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Nature is all around us. If you are lucky you can even see animals within the lodge. Emboo River is not fenced as we want animals to be able to roam freely.

Your Game Drive starts as soon as you jump into the Electric Safari Vehicles which are powered by solar panels. The vehicles are silent, so during the drive you will only hear the sounds of the savannah around you. You can get up close to animals, without disturbing them with noise or exhaust fumes.

When the Great Migration passes through the Maasai Mara you can see the massive herds all around the lodge. You want to see a spectacular river crossing? There is a popular spot for river crossings close to Emboo River.

Wildlife Photography

WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY

Emboo River is a favourite destination among wildlife photographers. Did you know that BBC's Big Cat Diary, presented by Jonathan and Angela Scott, stayed here to shoot beautiful footage of cats in action?

Emboo River's central location in the Maasai Mara, which is known for its abundance of wildlife,  allows you to see it all! Emboo River has several lion prides in the area which you will see during the day and hear during the nights. Leopards and cheetahs are spotted daily around the camp.

What better way to explore the Maasai Mara than in our Electric Safari Vehicles with Emboo River's expert Guides who have led many Photography Safaris and understand the specific needs of photographers.

Meals

MEALS & SUNDOWNER DRINKS

Watch giraffes stroll by while enjoying a meal. Hear the song of a Southern Ground Hornbill while sipping from your drink.

Emboo River's meals are served around the lodge along the river or in the centre of the savanna for a bush breakfast or lunch. Emboo River's Chefs apply a Farm to Fork concept, by using local and fresh ingredients to make sure that you enjoy delicious meals!  Within the camp, Emboo River has its own organic vegetable and herb garden - called 'shamba' in Kenya - with bell peppers, squash, rosemary, basil and a monkey proof cover.

The Maasai Mara offers breathtaking sunsets. We want you to enjoy this spectacle to the fullest and therefore Emboo River offers sundowners: a delicious drink, homemade bitings and a wild spot in the savannah. As soon as the sun has set, we invite you around the camp fire. This is the perfect spot to talk about the adventures of the day, gaze at the stars and listen to the tales of the Maasai.

Maasai Culture

MAASAI CULTURE

Emboo River is a proud member of the Maasai Community and this is also reflected in our name. 'Emboo' is the Maasai word for 'a pride'. It is our honour to introduce you to our wonderful community.

During your stay at Emboo River you will have plenty of opportunities to learn about the culture, history and day-to-day life of the Maasai community. While at the camp, you will see that Emboo River's Maasai staff wears the traditional Maasai Shuka. In the evenings Emboo River regularly hosts Maasai Warriors who perform traditional songs and dances. These songs represent an oral history of Maasai culture and include beautiful stories which our team will happily translate for you. One Maasai dance sees the Maasai warriors jumping as high as they can and you are welcome to join this competition.

An optional visit to our neighbouring Maasai Village allows you to learn even more about the Maasai community and to get a glimpse into the day-to-day life.

Relax & Play

RELAX & PLAY

Emboo River is located in a small forest along a river bend, making it a perfect spot to unwind and feel one with nature.  Wake up to the songs of birds. Read a book under the shade of our ancient fig tree. Meditate to the sound of the river flowing by.

Do you want to relax even further? Here are some activities which you could enjoy: spa, swimming pool, bush walks, birdwatching, yoga and meditation, boardgames, Wi-Fi, reading and much more.
