kenya is leading the way

On World Environment Day, on 5 June 2020, Kenya banned single-use plastic in protected natural areas such as beaches, forests and reserves... including the Maasai Mara National Reserve where Emboo River is located.

This follows Kenya’s ground-breaking step of a nationwide ban on single-use plastic bags in 2017.

The Emboo River team has implemented many measures in light of COVID-19, so you can travel without worries (or "hakuna matata" in Kiswahili). These measures are part of the C.L.E.A.N. Label. If you want to read more about our health and hygiene measures, click here.

Across Kenya, the government,  businesses and private people have stepped up measures to counter the spread of the COVID-19 virus. This also includes other tourism partners such as hotels, restaurants and airlines.

To travel to Kenya during this time, you are asked to take a few simple steps:

  1. Show the negative results from a COVID-19 PCR test. The PCR test should be taken maximum 96 hours prior to arrival in Kenya. The test results can be shown at the airport on a printed  paper or on your phone and should be in English.

  2. Submit this online form which helps with contact tracing: click here. Upon completion of the form, you receive a QR code which you can show at the airport either on a printed paper or on your phone.

  3. Check with your airline if they have measures in place. For example, some airlines will ask you to bring facemasks and handsanitizer so you can travel comfortably.

You do not need to quarantine upon arrival in Kenya.

If you need to take a COVID-19 test prior to your return travel, we are happy to help you with this. In Kenya, test results can be available the same or the next day following the COVID-19 test.
